Our goal is for you to be able to do works at every department in the warehouse in order to operate warehouse. There are four big categories - Administration, Merchandise, Fresh and Ancillary. We have a program called 18 months program for warehouse operation manager candidates. Through this program, you go through 2-3 month intensive training in core departments and rotate departments, and then complete in 18 months. After the completion of the program, you can apply for a supervisor position through an internal posting system, which is an entry level management position. Once you become a supervisor, you can aim for transfer to another department or promotion to Manager (through internal job posting), Assistant Warehouse Manager (appointed by the company), and Warehouse Manager (appointed by the company).

Student Program

Student program allows you to take time off from work to complete your studies successfully, and return to work between semesters at the same rate of pay while maintaining your seniority. The time you worked with both programs is all accumulated.
When you start working as a full-time employee, you can start with higher rate than regular wage, which you accumulated while attending school.

1.Regular Program

After continuously working as a Student or Part-time employee, you can be hired as Full-time employee with the wage you earned in accordance with hours you accumulated while attending school.

2.Retention Program

After working as a Seasonal employee (at least for five days), it's possible to join as Full-time.
Once you join this program, your working time will be accumulated even though you leave the company.
For example: If you worked as a seasonal employee at first and you come back in the next school break, your hourly wage will be set by your accumulated working time from the first employment as a seasonal employee.

BUDDY SYSTEM

Costco believes on-the-job training is more effective than just a classroom lecture. Once you are assigned at each location, senior colleague becomes your buddy and teach you daily operation one-on-one.

Costco Management Jobs

Understanding how to motivate employees is an important part of performance management. To stimulate productivity, many companies actively reward exceptional employees for their work. Instead of having a conventional employee reward system, Costco's business model embraces a reward system that motivates employees in an unorthodox way.

The White House praised Costco's business model, stating that 'increased productivity, better morale and lower turnover rates' was attributed to the company's commitment to its employees. Unlike other companies, Costco does not provide incentives to employees after a given period of time. Alternatively, all Costco employees receive competitive wages, a benefits plan and other bonuses. This essentially removes the limitations of reward systems we are accustomed to seeing. In Steven Kerr's article, 'On the folly of rewarding A, while hoping for B,' Kerr states that many reward systems are poorly conceived because they actually reward undesired behavior. Employees are able to find and exploit shortcuts to earn rewards, which can actually prevent company-wide goals from being achieved in an effective and timely manner.

By rewarding employees before, rather than after, Costco employees are immediately more engaged, or committed to the company they are working for. I believe this particular type of reward system makes it easier for Costco to successfully set expectations for its entire workforce. Costco's employees are more likely to embrace the company's core values and make a contribution that benefits the organization as a whole, since they know that their role in the company is valued. Additionally, the above average wages that Costco employees are paid sets a benchmark that encourages stronger performance, which justifies Costco's decision to spend more on its workforce.
